How do we answer the Facebook question?

On April 1st of 2017, this glorious shitpost of a board was born. /mlpol/ became a renaissance for the oldfag cultures of both /mlp/ and /pol/ while creating its own explosion of new content, the two communities of tenacious autists finding a chaotic symbiosis: /mlp/ content drove away the """based""" redditors that had infested /pol/ since 2016 calling anyone they didn't agree with a "shill" and were impossible to hold a conversation with; and /pol/ content drove away the derpibooru/Twitter tourists that constantly shit-up the place with their blatant disregard for 4chan culture and basic chansite etiquette, while pretending native users weren't really true members of the fandom.
In our solidarity, the Anons of /mlpol/ have found salvation from the hordes of redditors, shills, bots and booru tourists. We've persisted for 6 years since then, satisfied with having a small community with quality discourse and memes, and for a while, it's been great.

BUT

In the past couple years, we've seen infiltration by something much, much worse than redditors or booru tourists: Facebook posters. It started slow, just around the time the pandemic era mixup hit, begining as a small trickle before devolving into a cataclysmic torrent of unrelenting boomer-tier spam. A look at any of the threads on the board reveals their pestilent posting style, always the same meme-spam and antagonistic shit flinging when their abhorrent posts are scrutinized in any critical way. It suffocates quality discussion and drives away users. Perhaps some of us noticed early on, but didn't say anything because we wanted more users and hope they would assimilate over time (that's why we deleted rules #1 and #2), but they didn't!
The problem has gotten too noxious to ignore any longer, so that raises a series of questions:
How did they get here?
Is /mlpol/'s resistance to offboard shitposters not as we thought it was?
How much of our board's culture has been damaged by this?
How can we fix what is broken?

And most importantly

So, you may be active, but the rest is in vacation showing up only to shit on my threads.
By the way, look like your frens are not posting in your's either, because I'm a mayor participant but your frens are not.

>Whenever I spew low quality stuff nobody wants to touch it

>people who don't like my low quality spew are bad when they say they don't like it
>I am the only one who posts every second

You totally ignored my point, and you only think your way is the right way.

Spewing diarrhea everywhere is not something to be proud of.
>Not everybody is posting every second
I would rather one single almost great post once a year than your spam.
I and many others desire quality.
Your spew, refuses to produce quality.

The issue, which you seem unable to ever completely grasp, is that this really comes down to quality vs. quantity. Quality posts take time to compose, and quality discussion is usually slow because it requires people to take time and think through a problem. Board speed will decrease exponentially if you have a smaller number of posters participating.

Conversely, if users are just responding to each other with recycled memes or one-line no-u-style arguments, the board moves quickly but produces little worth reading. The speed might be attractive to a certain kind of poster, but that kind of person is mostly just looking to shitpost or get into pointless shouting matches; in other words, it's the kind of poster that this board was created to avoid. The problem with favoring a fast-moving, low-quality style of posting just to boost post count and engagement is that eventually serious discussion gets buried in memes and shitposts. This is basically what happened to 4/pol/, and I suspect the problem would persist to some degree even if all of the bots and shills were banned.

>Complainers are not posting, therefore they already vacated the place and the vacuum they left is being filled. They are continuously interfering with an active poster while adding butthurt to the board. In a nutshell, those anons only have the purpose of braking and shutting posting down.
The problem with this kind of thinking is that you're still focusing on quantity of posts rather than quality. Your rationale seems to be that low-effort spam is better than no posts at all, which I would argue is doing far more harm than good.

What you're essentially doing is filling the board with shit, to the extent that the only thing worth discussing is the amount of shit everywhere. So, naturally, discussion turns away from normal topics, and devolves into an endless meta-argument about what amount of feces is acceptable to have smeared all over the place. You take this as evidence that without your shitposts the board would be completely dead, and so continue to smear shit all over everything while patting yourself on the back for doing it.

As to whether or not traffic on this site is actually dying off, I can't honestly say. If this place was going to go completely under I think it's safe to say it would have done so by now; however, it is worth noting that we have suffered some real attrition due to people losing interest and moving on. It happens. We only exist in the first place because of an April Fool's Day prank; beyond that we're just a small site dedicated to political discussion, which can be had anywhere, and the pony fandom, which has itself suffered attrition due to the show going off the air and people moving on. The way I see it, we shouldn't be lamenting the fact that some people have moved on from the fandom or from this place, we should be celebrating the fact that people have stuck around as long as they have.

At the end of the day, you can't force people to be interested in a topic they're not interested in, so there is always a possibility that the site will end up dying off, or be reduced to a small number of core users. If the fate of this place is to become a slow-moving pony altchan like NHNB, then I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. It might not move as fast as some people might like, and we might suffer some additional loss of posters who want more consistent engagment, but I think that ultimately the people who want to stay would be worth keeping around. However, turning the entire site into a garbage dump for low-effort faceberg memes and news aggregation is pretty much guaranteed to kill the site, or turn it into something that would be better off dead.

In other words, if it comes down to a choice between letting /mlpol/ die with dignity, or trying to sustain it by turning it into a 24/7 recycled meme dump like /pol/ or god forbid /b/, I would choose the former. That's my two cents.

That's right.

Not according to me.
>As to whether or not traffic on this site is actually dying off, I can't honestly say.
I do. Moar posting is needed.

I thought that already was sorted out. Dumping is mostly in /sp/ then WTF is the complaint about?

RIght. But it is according to pretty much everyone but you. That's what you don't seem to be able to wrap your head around.

>I thought that already was sorted out. Dumping is mostly in /sp/ then WTF is the complaint about?
Because for people who use the overboard, nothing has changed. The low-effort, low-quality threads are still the first thing they see when they refresh the board. Since you're basically just posting content for yourself only, wouldn't it make more sense to just keep the memes on your hard drive and just scroll through them whenever you need a dopamine rush?

It's telling. The memes are hurting you.
Disgusting.

>And yet they themselves post nothing.
I make at an average of one new thread par week. That's more than nothing.
And I know for a fact that multiple other users engage my threads, do they too are posting more than nothing.
>>8518
>Quality posts take time to compose, and quality discussion is usually slow because it requires people to take time and think through a problem.
This.

>serious discussion gets buried in memes and shitposts
Not only that, it actually drives away quality posters who were brought here by the promise of quality content.
If posters only wanted high-speed, low-quality stuff, they'd just use 4chan. 4chan is still usable. We're not competing with 4chan in terms of speed, but quality.
>This is basically what happened to 4/pol/, and I suspect the problem would persist to some degree even if all of the bots and shills were banned.
Arguably worse, as since 4/pol/ still exists despite the sewage, /mlpol/ going down the same path threatens to make the content creators give up and leave for their own discord groups or whatever.
>turning the entire site into a garbage dump for low-effort faceberg memes and news aggregation is pretty much guaranteed to kill the site, or turn it into something that would be better off dead.
Basically my point.
>>8519
>I do. Moar posting is needed.
Then learn to make quality posts, ffs.
Make well-written, single-topic happening threads. Write green text about mares. Open discussions in meaningful ways that aren't just pissing contests.
>Dumping is mostly in /sp/ then WTF is the complaint about?
It's not only in /sp/. The memes dumping is actually not much of a priority issue in and of itself. Scroll up and read the posts carefully when they refer to posting style and discussion quality.

>people who use the overboard
I won't lie, but I'm actually questioning if the overboard is actually healthy for us as a site. There's a reason why most altchans don't have one, and the ones that do tend to be the almost-dead ones. It blends different boards together and encourages people to just keep refreshing the over board instead of checking the catalog.
That's a topic for another thread though.

We used to put horse porn in every post of every political thread thread. Lapse in that has enabled normies to infiltrate. It's time for a horsepussy revival.
