“I don’t know of anyone in my family… not that I have much family, but you know what I mean, who have gone to college. Not many ponies in Del Manantial, or the village, or really even that I know in Baltimare have gone to college. It’s all about going to work at a warehouse or store or something. That’s what I did much of last year. But I wanted to do something more. I didn’t think it could happen because I wasn’t smart enough, I didn’t have good enough grades. My family isn’t established or well respected or anything. But here I am. Here I am.”
She’s actually kind of breathing heavily by the end, probably because she is about to cry.

But if she’s right and she doesn’t stop it, her daughter’s life could be ruined, her grandfoal’s lives could be ruined, and she could look like a bad parent for failing to stop it. I don’t know. I don’t like it either.”

She leans in and hugs him back. It’s a pretty tight hug, and she doesn’t break it quickly.
