Happy 4th of July, poners. Just watched the fireworks, after being coaxed into it. And I was surprised to see that they were pretty alright. Not mind-blowing, but good.
What do you guys think is the most interesting thing about the US? Something you are thankful for? I'll start: I think it's really cool that two thousand years after the Romans, we cared so deeply for their philosophy and iconic figures that we considered George Washington to be our humble leader in the same vein as Cincinnatus, enough to name the town of Cincinnati after him and mythologize Washington with imagery reminiscent of Rome.

Oops, didn't see this thread when I made mine. Happy 4th! Hard to pick what I find most interesting about America, but I guess what I'm thankful for is that despite all the subversion, lies, and consolidation, so much of it still hasn't been broken, and that in a generation's time, the slate can still be wiped clean, and something new can be built, learning from past mistakes.

For me, it is how few wars America has ever actually won and yet is a superpower. The Revolutionary War was a stalemate that had a couple of victories at the end that made the British decide it was just too expensive to fight despite them winning the majority of encounters and having the loyalty of half the nation. The British came back and burned down the capital and another stalemate with many defeats. The only major victories were either against inferior enemies like Mexico and Spain, or when they were backed up by the forces of nearly the entire world against a couple of nations.

Still, America is nice for having freedom for a few more years to enjoy ponies and nazi memorabilia. I also enjoy southern fairs. Some have art competitions, there are animal wrangling and training demonstrations, insanely unhealthy food to enjoy, cowboy themed everything, and sometimes you get good music as well. I still remember walking around and enjoying the art collections as they were being judged for a blue first place ribbon. Very enjoyable.

Didn't see that you made a thread but thank you anon. I do feel that sometimes too. We got our resident based guy whose car is covered in Lock Her Up shit, lots of 2A folks from the local military base, and despite my pessimism I can be sure that were we not at least decent, America would have been a smoldering pile decades ago.

Well, if we didn't have the balls to break the norms of warfare and generally be the Eternal Rebel, I suppose we never would have made it so far as a country. I think we proved that being a military superpower wasn't really the only way to be a superpower. We were home to so many important figures, ideas, movements...and sure, a lot now is Jewed, but at least we made a good impression before becoming world police.
I haven't been to Del Mar or watched fireworks in years. It didn't miraculously make me happy, but it did make me think a bit...tonight's a funny night for me mentally.

Fireworks are usually a good time. I'm not sure why aside the lights being pleasing. You would think the explosion sounds would trigger fear in people, but perhaps it is the mastery of explosives that instills the opposite in fireworks? A display of control over something destructive to be beautiful? Just my best guess as to why people have been attracted to fireworks for so many years.

Also, look up some fairs and rodeos to watch online. They are pretty fun. It isn't only riding wild horses and bulls though it is the major attraction, but also demonstrating taming and training various animals. You wouldn't think llamas would be a category, but you will find all sorts of things in a fair. Might be fun.

Happy 4th of July! I'm glad states have their own heritage and history. It's a wonder that the US even exists as it is and what it was expected to be.
Fireworks so future generations wouldn't cower from the explosions and also a source of joy.

>For me, it is how few wars America has ever actually won and yet is a superpower.
I think it's because they were far away from Europe. Much easier competition away from the Bri-ish. The Japs had their chance as well. Yet they lagged behind and only decided to catch up when it was already too late. Not sure about the Argentinians tho.
>like Mexico and Spain
Spain was a whole other beast compared to Mexico tbh. The central government could barely keep the country from splitting away.
>or when they were backed up by the forces of nearly the entire world against a couple of nations.
Yeah, atleast the Sherman was a great tank.
