Barhandar's become something of a leader in this movement since he's consistently and reasonably called for the administration to resign. However I think that his latest post is a tinge too soft. The admins are dyed-in-the-wool Marxists and they don't understand not bringing their political stance in. They'll keep their heads down during probation only to push the site leftwards again at some later date. Simply barring them from making HR decisions won't stop them from influencing those who do make the decisions. I think demanding anything other than total resignation of the responsible admins will backfire in the long-term.

It is hard to fix what is broken, and the admins on derpibooru (or those responsible) have already shown that they are pro-censorship. But it is hard to replace entire portions of staff over night and could lead to more shit if wrong elements gets in. I think a pledge to not censor or delete stuff unless it breaks the law is the way to go. Then one way they can avoid "being pressured" is to do as PirateBay used to do - publicly post all emails/letters/etc. demanding shit. This way make it public who is trying to pressure them into changing rules - which they should not do.
But I don't know the buildup of the staff or what options derpibooru have available. An advisory board consisting of some of the users that would be free to disclose all they learn, and that needs to be brought in on every rule change before implemented, to be able to act as guards against abuse could be an option. Also allow them to see bans and deletions, who made the ban/deletion and for what reason, and be allowed to reveal this could be an option. But it is hard to put in place a good solution.
Best would be if derpibooru just had adhered to the principle of no censorship and if asked what they thought about x, y, z or whatever posted on their site just said "no comment, we are a service provider and don't comment on what our users post", and they would not be where they are now having to deal with this. But they chose to bend the knee and soon will be forced to lick the boots of the mob that pressured them into censorship unless they do an 180, remove the censorship and say "We were wrong, we bent to the mob and we let our self be pressed into making a rash and unjust decision to censor art. Art should be free and artists should be free to express themselves. Sadly we became what we abhor most of all. We became book burners. We became destroyers of free thought. We became the thought police."

Now in the terms of Derpibooru, who owns the site? The ones that built it, put the money in to creating it, running the server, and maintaining it. If they wish to do with it what ever they want, that is their bullshit.

But there is a problem and the same which encapsulates the majority of all social media, which Derpibooru falls under. And that is public interaction with a media platform. They allow the public into their site, free of charge, to post on their site content to which the user produces all of the content. The producers, they own the means of production because they took the time, the money, and effort to produce it no matter how well or worse the quality is from the mean. No one else owns it, but since you are uploading it to that site, the site owns exclusive rights to distribute and display your works.

The site's model is to archive user content, and as such, is a platform. Now that they wish to restrict content, does that now make them a publisher themselves? This is the same Bullshit that Google, Facebook, Twitter, Tublr, and so forth has become, they have become publishers in the face of pretending to be platforms. Some may say this is false advertising to the users, which it is, but also goes further than that in the legal side because of what they are pretending to be and the granted protections instilled upon them because of it.

The majority of all content is user based, yet they are censoring it, filtering it. Their models are based upon that, they are not employees so should they now be considered employees? You allow the public in, and then try to control the public.

With myself and my corporation, I hired my employees, you see the difference here? I can fire my employees but I can't fire my consumers. Derpi is trying to do just that and fire their consumers.

This should be your issue, not that they are even a business but that they are a bad business, and a monopoly of works in the fandom at that. And when they masquerade around pretending to be a platform for the public and tries to be a publisher instead of the public, oh we are going to have some issues for sure.

A bunch of artists; including Jargon Scott, AnonTheAnon, Shino, and some other big names; filled DNPs basically saying "fuck your censorship." Then after some discussion and talk; derpi Admin Parasprite rolled back the new censorship rules, wanting the site to be an archive for all. Because of this, artists like Braeburned who either have quit the fandom or aren't the most well known artists not only filled a DNP, but told the mods to remove every piece of their art uploaded to the site. So Admin Blossomforth sorta went rogue and just declared anything hateful is now banned, communist or nazi. Mods/Volunteers for the site were not informed, and neither was Parasprite (the admin who rolled back the censorship rules). This caused a huge clusterfuck, and because of all the flip flopping the thread devolved into some great shitposting. That's a summary of events as I understand them, after talking to multiple people.

As for Woot, he posted real life images and the name of a user who was anti-censorship of any kind. Since he revealed their identity with malicious intent, it was deemed to be doxxing and not only did the entire thread turn on him, but the mods that still had brain cells banned him. Then his trans girlfriend (male) came in and started defending him, which caused people to turn on "her".

Is derpibooru dead? Quite possibly, there's a general consensus from both sides that this flip flopping shows that no one can be guaranteed what they want, but this is what they get when they try to kiss everyone's asses. I would like to say derpi will never recover, but we all know you can never say never.
