I regret to inform you that Firefox is compromised, funded by the George Soros foundation for open borders. One of the main developers was kicked out of the company for not being neomarxist enough years ago. Firefox has ever since increased its censorship and manipulation significantly.
Ive been using Opera since i switched. To put it blunty, Opera was (at least to me) what Firefox was to Internet Explorer. It was that much of an improvement for my internet experience. They also serve the best mobile browser. High security and privacy, thoroughly recommend it.
comes with a free VPN, bookmark and password import, speed dial, screenshot tool, addblocker, malware checker, optional add ons, private browser sessions (no history) and a huge list of customizations. I will probably never use another browser anytime soon as long as this one stays secure. its being developed in norway, which is (to my knowledge) not part of the EU.
I think its probably the best surface web browser that currently exists, arguably next to (or even better than) Brave. Brave recently got into a censorship controversy regarding kiwifarms that damaged their reputation, sadly.

Its hard to get rid of Gmail since its so dominant.
I suggest looking into Proton Mail for secure Mailing services and Cock.li for throwaway or low priority accounts.

What's your issue with CERN?
I see this same thing all the time, the argument that "such-and-such service is made by X", and that's taken as an argument not to use it - and the alternative is always some other service where the people who run it are completely unknown or unaccountable. (e.g. DuckDuckGo versus Startpage or Bing)

My own suggestion for email would be to find a small ISP who are hosting in a jurisdiction you trust, and to pay for the service. Don't ever trust "free" services to do what's in your interest when you have given them no financial incentive to do so.
If you just need a throwaway for registering on some website, then use whatever is most convenient.
If you need a truly secure communications channel, look into anonymous remailers and be prepared for the steep learning curve for you and everyone you want to talk to.
