Cyberpunk is the idea that technology will condemn us to a future of totalitarian nightmares here you can discuss recent events and how technology has been used to facilitate greater control by the elites, or works of fiction

Genetically Modified Horse Waifus for Domestic Ownership
Anonymous

Since this is the closest thing to a /sci/ board that we have, and biopunk is related to cyberpunk I figured I would post this here. This thread is all about genetically modified horse waifus for domestic ownership. What would be the major technological challenges? How close is current technology? What would you want in your bio-engineered waifu?

to have it not turn out as some kind of freakish abomination like pic related would probably be the main thing.

I think the technology is around a decade or two away. Scientists are already looking into using animals to grow human organs (https://www.nature.com/scientificamerican/journal/v315/n5/box/scientificamerican1116-32_BX1.html?foxtrotcallback=true) and they have already engineered mice with "humanized" brains (http://www.pnas.org/content/111/39/14253 http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/bies.201300070/abstract)

I'm going to stick with a mechanical one with whatever AI is available until that guarantees the result that I'm looking for. If I'm going to be doing anything ckose to playing god, I'm doing it with something we humans actually have proper dominion over in every aspect.

I would want her to live at least as long as I do. I want her to be able to read at a college level. I want her to be able to carry on a conversation. I want her to be capable of geniuine love and affection.
I think increasing longevity and improving immunity would be the hardest challenges. Horses only live like 30 and we would need to almost triple that if we wanted them to live as long as us.

If you can do that, may as well go ahead and extend the lives of the superhumans that could be created with this field of inovation.

I believe that every research center as of now does know fuck all about proteoma engineering and modifications. Doing such thing is not "simple" as creating a pig with compatible organs for humans, it requires a project for the whole body, bottom up, and perfect knowledge of the genome and every combined effect of the chunks related to shape, growth and functionality.
However.
Policy and interest-wise, China could be advantaged in the run to create chimeras, but I doubt the chinks have any interest whatsoever in creating ponies instead of better ant-people.

At this technological stage it's better to try and cause random mutations through radiation damage and consequent trait selection using a gorillion specimens like it was originally made for crops before Gene editing became feasible.

You think we would need to know all of that just to make a horse smart enough for conversation?

Achkhktually, yes. A brain with higher functionality is energy-demanding, and has repercussions on the whole body. An organism is througly interlaced, you can't just transplant/enhance a part of it and expect it to work just fine if it isn't designed to do so

how much would it increase energy demand by? Could you just decrease the size and muscle mass of the pone through selective breeding to cut down on energy demands?

It would surely demand more blood intake and nutrition, for starters. Then the effects and modifications required tumble down to nervous system, glands...
I honestly don't know how much. I'm just a scifi nerd, not in biochem or anything.

True.
You can't just make an organisms brain bigger without modifying the rest of it to accommodate it. Even things like jaw structure and neck muscles are significant. The entire organism's body must be in perfect synch

I can't imagine it would increase energy demands by more than 10-20%. Horses' brains are actually pretty similar to ours. Now that certainly is significant but I doubt we would need to understand every aspect of the organism to overcome that. Reducing muscle mass, decreasing body size, maybe altering gut bacteria for more efficient energy digestion.
>>302
Seems like a lot of the structural problems could be overcome through selective breeding.

Yeah, but that takes quite a bit of time... You'd have to go through 30-something generations of mutant hoers before you got one that could survive more than a few years...

People have been breeding horses for centuries. Surely there are a few breeds that have a few of the required traits. We wouldn't be starting from scratch.

The problem here seems to be the fitting of a designed, humanlike brain into the modified structure of a horse used as raw materials.
WHAT IF it was done the other way.
If anyone did read "Yapoo: human cattle", you might know where I'm getting at.

You don't start from eugenics nor ENGenics, but from dysgenics. Nature, as alwais, provides half of the work already. Think about the joke dog breeds, i.e. pugs.

Raw material could be a batch of pooinloo genetic fuckups with Congenital Genu Recurvatum (pic related)
Then select bad ova/sperm and insert/combine dwarfism, hypertricosis. Proceed by polishing the product with selective breeding and surgery, while causing early puberty with hormone injections to speed up the reproductive turnover of the specimens.

All in all:
>move to India
>create foundation for genetic study/therapy
>hire brony Mengele
>acquire specimens
>keep some of them happy and well fed/cured as good PR
>acquire more specimens from the first batch by "accidental pregnancies" and steal the fetuses masquerading it as late game abortions
>what gets in the basement, stays in the basement

manegele little humanpony

genetics is magic.

base: human dna, edited with pony dna and cat dna (mlp ponies have cat lije features)

i don't think actual hooves would be apropriate, but very stronhly modified paws. those would look more like mlp pony hooves and could still allow for object manipulation.

wings and horns would be mostly useless.

the colors are going to be complicated, especialy blue hues.

Human as a base, then recessive gemne activation, pony genes and cat genes ( mlp ponies are closer to felines in their anatomy and facial structure than to equines). a few genes present in dogs would encourage loyality and bonding.

I think it would be easier to use horses as the base if the end result is meant to be horse-like.
